Dot Dot Dash

As the year draws to a close, I'd like to announce two new works that share a theme.

6,500 painted dashes make up 'Universe'. Nature is full of oscillations or notes, and this painting charts this enormous chorus of rhythms: from the great slow waves of matter and light when the Universe was born, through to our Earth cycles of years, days, nights and tides. Beyond are our hearts, from a whale to a hummingird and going on up to the beating heart of light.

Above: Universe, oil on canvas, 90 x 100 cm.

On a smaller and more local scale to mark the change in year here on Earth: 'A Year', 12 colourful dashes trace the months across an earthbound green. This small work on paper is painted onto a hand printed ground.

A Year, oil on lino print, on paper. 5 x 18cm.
