Light Printing

Every point in space contains myriad images.

This photograph of the eclipse using the small holes of the colander to select images is a demonstration of this remarkable and everyday miracle which led to my experimentation with this super low tech method I call light printing.

The set-up comprises two cardboard screens with holes cut in them. A shape is cut in the first screen to make an image, for example a square, a dancer or a star. The second screen has an array of small holes in it through which the image can travel onto a third translucent screen made of tracing paper. The screens are arranged in line, one after the other and the lights are switched off. The image side of the set-up is illuminated and the new picture created is viewed on the translucent screen.

I dream about turning it into a larger exhibit. See the last image.
